Music at All Saints’

The Cathedral Choir sings at the Choral Eucharist each Sunday at 8:30am. It also contributes to monthly Evensongs and special services of the Parish and Diocese, including Ordinations.

The Choir is for mixed voices – soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. The repertoire is wide and is drawn from both traditional and contemporary sources. Singing is accompanied by pipe organ and piano or may be performed unaccompanied. On occasions, various instruments are added to anthems and motets as required.

Choir Practice is regularly held on Monday evenings at 6:00pm, and also immediately before special events.
The Cathedral and its Choir have been members of the Royal School of Church Music since 1934 and from time to time host regional workshops offered by this organisation.

New members for the Cathedral Choir are most welcome and are invited to contact the Director of Music, Mr Gavin Tipping on 0428 842 846. A blending voice, an ability to sing in parts, sight-reading ability and reasonable consistency of attendance are the main requirements.

The English firm of Brindley & Foster of Sheffield, UK supplied the organ to the Cathedral in 1886. Further details about the organ can be found here.

The Cathedral also has a Yamaha Grand Piano, an Ahlborn-Galanti two manual instrument and 2 Roland digital pianos.

Gavin Tipping is the Director of Music and Cathedral Organist at All Saints’ Cathedral, Bathurst, taking up his appointment in January 2016. Gavin has a lifetime experience in church music, playing at many churches and Cathedrals in Australia and around the world. Gavin studied at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Trinity College of Music, London and Durham University. He was Principal Organist at St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney for 10 years and has toured internationally with St Mary’s Cathedral Choir. On the SECOND Monday of each month, a music recital is held in the Cathedral from 1:00 – 1:30 pm. These recitals give musicians an opportunity to perform in a unique acoustic space and to use the cathedral’s pipe organ and grand piano. The audience is invited to come with lunch and sit and listen to some fine music while enjoying the ambiance of the Cathedral building. A donation of $5 is requested to cover administration and incidental costs. For 2016 our concerts are:
